Kolkata Metroplitan Water and Sanitation Authority is a premier orgnisation with the assigned task to develop and improve upon Water and Sanitation facilities for Greater Kolkata.
It is under administrative control of KMDA, Department of Urban Development, Government of West Bengal.
It has jurisdiction in large areas of Kolkata Metroplitan Area, with beneficiery over 147 lakhs people, concerning major projects like JNNURM, GAP, FAWS at various Municipalities and Panchayets, Garden Reach, Serampore, Maheshtala, Uttarpara etc. |

Kolkata Metropolitan Water and Sanitation Authority (KMW&SA) was enacted in May 1966 by the West Bengal Legislature. It is known as The Calcutta Metropolitan Water And Sanitation Authority Act, 1966.
However, KMW&SA was formed out of the erstwhile CMPO as an independent body with its Head Quarter at 32-B.B.D.Bag (South), Calcutta-1 (Presently Kolkata-1). Incidentally this building is a Heritage Building, having a historical link with the British India in early 20th Century. |
